June Is National Safety Month
June is National Safety Month, and if you know anything about GOS, you know that we’re all about safety in the workplace (and also office supplies… and merch. We love merch.)
Since 1996 the National Safety Council has been leading the way in helping employers and workers alike protect themselves and avoid preventable workplace accidents and injuries. Each year the Council splits the month of June into four weekly topics to help employers examine their internal processes and procedures so that they can identify problems and remediate any issues. The weekly topics for 2023 are:
- Emergency Preparedness
- Slips, Trips, and Falls
- Heat-Related Illnesses
- Hazard Recognition
When we aren’t emblazoning your logo on anything that isn’t nailed down (and some stuff that is!), GOS also sells a wide range of items that can help your company stay organized, vigilant, and ready for anything.
Emergency Preparedness
During an emergency, you workers should have everything they need to stay safe and – if necessary – provide aid to those in need. The National Safety Council has a number of great resources for organizations to use to prepare their staff and help them with in-the-moment situations, such as treating injuries or performing CPR, and GOS has the supplies you need to make it happen. We’ve got everything from basic first aid supplies to respirator masks, caution tape, and fire extinguishers. Hopefully, none of it is ever needed, but you and your team will rest easy know that it’s all there – just in case.
Slips, Trips, and Falls
Slips, trips, and falls are one of the leading causes of workplace injuries in the United States, so it makes sense that the National Safety Council would put extra emphasis on preventing them. While we can’t enroll your entire workforce in ballet classes to make them more graceful, we can help you equip your offices, warehouses, and other workspaces with signage for wet floors, covers to keep wayward cables under control, and floormats to help add traction to slippery floors.
Heat-Related Illnesses
Heat-related illnesses, such as heat stroke, are another major concern for employers – especially during the summer months in the South! We sell a wide variety of fans – from large box fans to small desk-top numbers – to keep your team cool. We also have a ton of hydration options for your team to ensure that everyone is keeping cool from the inside out – from standalone water coolers to refreshing beverages and sports drinks for the break room (gotta get those electrolytes in!).
Hazard Recognition
We’re always on the lookout for red flags around the office, and we aren’t just talking about micro-managers or overly-flirty colleagues. It’s important for employers to be vigilant about the potential hazards that could befall their staff during the course of their ordinary – or extraordinary – work endeavors. For example, a wobbly shelf in the supply room could spell disaster for someone reaching for something on the top shelf. By taking a look around your entire workspace – from the breakroom to the bathrooms and beyond you’ll be able to determine where hazards might be and procure the proper tools and equipment to remedy any issues.
This month, be sure to follow the National Safety Council to keep up with the latest information on keeping your workplace safe – and then click back over to GOS to stock up on the necessary supplies.
